Busy, busy, busy. A few quite busy months with lots of things going on. Seems that a lot has also happened in the rest of the hobby world. Mike and Alison McVey have launched their super-cool website, StudioMcVey.com, with lots of great mini-painting to look at... Naturally it need to be added to my Link-section. In regards to my own minipainting I have painted a very nice model for Minipainters Miniatures and have a converted WFB Empire Warrior Priest as well as some old school night goblins ready to be painted soon. Also, I have finally found time to do some sculpting (which will be shown in the near future), and in regards to the my appretice-project for GDUK he got in the final cut with a very nice =I= scale Kroot conversion. Check out his through this link to the Warhammer forum. Well done, Odin!

August 16th 2007
Last weekend I attended Ropecon in Helsinki, Finland as a so-called guest of honour. And I must say that I was indeed in honoury company being invited along two big names in the roleplaying industry, veteran games designer and writer Robin D. Laws and independent publisher Emily Care Boss.

It was a fantastic event which apart from miniature-painting and gaming also offered lots of roleplaying, larp, card games, and beach volley. By acting lead-judge in the painting competion and giving a seminar about creating competition miniatures I got to talk to lots of talented painters and saw many fantastic figures. It was a great weekend full of and dedicated people and a general enthusiasm for the hobby in it's many forms.

August 7th 2007: Ropecon and another really old addition to CMON...
I have been invited to attend RopeCon in Helsinki, Finland, this coming weekend. I looks very much forward to the event. I hope to meet lots of talented Finns and also to see many great miniatures.
Also, I have added my Lord of Change from GDUK 1998 to my cmon-gallery: www.coolminiornot.com/165287.

July 29th 2007: A trip down memory lane...
I have finally taken the time to photograph most of my older GD-winning minis with proper background and several angles and I will be adding them to the gallery both here and on CMON over the next weeks.
For starters, here is the model that got me my first Golden Demon - the Slaanesh Chaos Lord painted back in 1998.
CMON-link: www.coolminiornot.com/164692.

July 17th 2007: The apprentice has been chosen...
I will be contacting the chosen candidate tonight and getting back to all who applied during the next few days.

July 9th 2007: a few things...
Regarding the apprentice coaching project I have recieved a bunch of photos showing great skill from all candidates so far. However, I will keep the application period open for another week or so before I settle on the final candidate.

In regards to my own miniature painting I have finished my contribution to the online painting competition held by Black Scorpion Miniatures: the Mad Hatter to the gallery. I also uploaded the Mad Hatter to my CMON-gallery: www.coolminiornot.com/163120

July 4th 2007: Taking on an apprentice...
Back in January I got an email from a painter who wanted to challenge himself and improve his painting skills for one of this year’s forth-coming GD competitions. He asked if I would critique his painting and help him to get better, and although I don’t normally do this I thought “heck, why not”...

Well, the email was from Todd Swanson and Todd took the GD Atlanta Slayer Sword with the entry that I coached him on. All honour goes to Todd – after all he did the actual brush-work, but I think I have managed to channel some European influence into his sword-winning Troll...

Anyway, I quite enjoyed the process and therefore have decided to take on a single apprentice toward GD UK. The perfect candidate is a painter with some routine and skills - perhaps a finalist or even a bronze winner from last year. Correspondence will be in English and I suggest a coaching process over about 20-ish work-in-progress-pictures which I will comment and give suggestions the best I can.

Well, enough talk... this is the announcement! There is only 2½ months to the event so if you feel like taking on a big project for GD UK why not apply by sending me a picture of your latest miniature and a few words about yourself and the plans for your entry. I will prefer candidates with lots of enthusiasm and a great idea that can be developed into a strong entry.

I will look at all stuff that I receive, but I cannot promise to get back to everyone in writing. I will announce when the selection is finished here on jrn-works.dk and get in touch with the selected candidate to start planning the process, but I will not post the name of the candidate.

As a final note this project corresponds nicely with the fact that I cannot go to GDUK myself this year. But speaking about big hobby events I am attending RopeCon in Helsinki, Finland, in August.

December 1st 2006: JRN's X-mas count-down
Things have been pretty silent here hobby-wise during the past month (due to a house move), but now I will try to make up for it and therefore I present my very own X-mas count-down! From December 1st and all the way to X-mas I will try to get some mini-painting done every night and present the progress in my Desktop-shot every day.

On todays Desktop-shot of the Day I have 4 models to show - let's see how they will turn out over the next few weeks...

October 31st 2006

Pics of my large scale entry, the Missionary Judge, are finally up.

September 27th 2006: Back from GD UK...
What a day! The competition was very strong and there were so many wonderful models to see. My Desktop-shot of the week is updated showing a quick snapshot of my main entry, an Inquisitor Judge, which was awarded silver in Large scale. Better pictures will follow when I get the chance to photograph him properly. I also managed to get a lucky bronze demon for my Ogre Maneater conversion painted back in November 2005.

I had a great day ad enjoyed talking to lots of people. It was so cool to meet properly with Adrian Bay, Jeff Wilhelm, Margo, Migzula, Tim Lison, the crowd from the Nottingham store, Sven, the guys from Malmö, the Spanish team, and in particular Albert, who got the sword. And a lot more friendly people...

I also enjoyed visiting the GW Art exhibition at the Nottingham Castle Museum which I found very inspiring.

September 20th 2006
Desktop-shot of the week updated... or rather - "me at my working desk". Since I am attending Golden Demon in Birmingham on Sunday I thought I would "reveal" my face. There are always lots of cool people from the hobby attending, but since most of us use avatars on the web it is hard to recognize people... Anyway, this is what I look like and the only thing left to say is "See you there!"

September 19th 2006
Update on the GD-front... I had to abbandon my primarily GD-entry (not enough time with two wonderful children around...), but my "plan B"-entry is looking quite nice. :-)

Yesterday, I had the chance to check out the 4 entries that Rune Kappel brought to the French Golden Demon earlier this month. So far he has only uploaded pics of one of the miniatures to his galleries at www.kaple.dk, but look out for the rest. Damn fine miniatures... and by the way well done winning that Silver Demon!

April 20th 2006
Desktop-shot of the week updated: A little progress on the painting front...

April 7th 2006 - Exciting news: The Femme Militants...
I have been allowed to paint and show two very special models in my Gallery. Both are limited edition Femme Militants from the forth-coming John Blanche Miniatures (visual hints of the series can be found at www.lvxmvndi.com). I painted Gallowglass for John, while Ratspyke was a given to me and stands in my cabinet. The series are not yet available and so far there has only been a little information about the series. However, when I get the chance I will post updates on the subject - and I am sure that you will eventually hear something official about the project. (But until then please do NOT spam me, GW, or anyone else with questions).
Both models were pure joy to paint and I am really excited to see more of these miniatures...

April 4th 2006
I have finally had time to add my old Night Goblin Army to the gallery section as well as to CoolMimiOrNot - www.coolminiornot.com/118578.

March 23rd 2006 - a few observations...
Recently, I have noticed a few discussions about the so-called "dipping"-painting technique (see this link for an example). I haven't tried the technique myself, but I really like the idea that gamers can make their armies look great for the tabletop with minimum effort. I rarely game myself, but when I do I always play against people with painted armies. I just hate playing against "the grey horde" and if the technique can reduce the number of non-painted armies out there I think it is great.

Of other interesting hobby stuff that I have finally had an opportunity to have a look at the RAVAGE magazine - "la Scène Internationale" that came through the mail about a month ago. The magazine is filled with lots and lots of inspireing paintjobs by very talented artists. That said, I think there are a few problems with the magazine. It seems a bit weird that the scale is inconsistent in most photographs - some figures are shown larger than life, some smaller. I also wondered why an artist such as Matt Parkes isn't featured. I mean if it is indeed "la Scène Internationale" it should include figures by a painter with 3 UK Slayer Swords! Just as the selection of the featured artists occurs somewhat problematic so is the priority of the space in the page layout. Strange...

Well, back to work...

March 16th 2006
Desktop-shot of the week updated: First mini-painting done in about two months...
But I have managed to finish a model - Archibald from Black Scorpion Miniatures.
EDIT: Added Archibald to CMON: www.coolminiornot.com/116806.

February 5th 2006
Desktop-shot of the week updated: The first test-picture of my classic Night gobbo army fra 1997. Should be taking a lot of pics of this army sometime soon...

January 16th 2006
Desktop-shot of the week updated: A Tyranid Gaunt, an old Citadel halfling, and a converted plastic beastman.

January 2nd 2006 - Thinking about 2005...
2005 was a fantastic year: I started sculpting, guest-starred on Rune Kappel's Miniature Painting CD, got back on the stage at Golden Demon UK, and our 2 years old daugther learned to say "Daddy's minis" and picks up models by the base (most of the time)!

Here is the last miniature that I finished in 2005: a Champion of Nurgle.
Also, I have rephotographed my Gladiator with more angles and better light.

...about Runic Miniatures
I am still working on the website. The official Runic Miniatures website is planned to include a mailing list for those wishing to keep track of the development of Runic Miniatures. As I have said before, the project is a part time-business and I plan to continue painting and posting miniatures here as I have done the past year and a half so don't worry about that.

As I said back in December the plan is to get the three first figures (Anya, the Seer, and Lisa) ready ASAP, and then follow up with more miniatures thereafter. Actually, Anya, the Seer, and Lisa were created back in mid-2005 and I have wanted to share them for quite a while, so here they are.

Tutorials - version française
With the help of Jean-François Gagné (at DaemonicAura.com) my tutorials are being translated into French.
2 more have been added: Peindre des vêtements gris, Transporter vos précieuses figurines.

...So, 2006 seems full of opportunities... better get into it straight away!

..........

December 31st 2005

December 4th 2005
Desktop-shot of the Week updated: I have started painting a Nurgle Champion and CHEF from Black Scorpion Miniatures.

November 28th 2005 - A lot of information today...
Since I posted the news about my planned miniature line, Runic Miniatures, I have had lots of people asking interesting and relevant questions. The official Runic Miniatures website is being built at the moment and is planned to include a mailing list for those wishing to keep track of the development of Runic Miniatures. However, the project is a part time-business and I plan to continue painting and posting miniatures here as I have done the past year and a half so don't worry about that.

When will the first minis be available then?
Well, the plan is to get the three first figures ready by the beginning of 2006, and then follow up as quickly as possible with more miniatures. To me the basic idea of Runic Miniatures is all about working hard to become a great sculptor and sharing the process with those interested.

Why did you post the minis now instead of waiting until the website, shop, etcetera, was ready?
These miniatures were actually created back in Spring and Summer 2005 and I have just wanted to share them for quite a while now. Also - and this is where things gets a little exciting - the miniatures are used in tutorials on Rune Kappel's Miniature Painting CD. Not only are my figures on the CD, but I have also contributed with a little miniature painting myself.

Actually, I have followed most of the creation of the Miniature Painting CD and I have found the product as well as Rune's approach and dedication to the project to be very professional.
Therefore I did not hesitate when Rune asked me to do a "guest star"-appearance on the CD and show a couple of my painting techniques up close. The technique used to paint the super-detailed dress of the Spyglass Maris I posted recently is the topic of one of my tutorials.
Check out the Miniature Painting CD at www.kaple.dk.

Finally, I have added 3 websites to the link section: Wyrd Miniatures, Perry Miniatures, and the homepage of Victoria Lamb (about time!).

November 23th 2005
Two new models added to the Gallery today: Anya and a Seer. These two models along with Lisa shown back in October will be the first miniatures from Runic Miniatures - my own miniature company which will be launched in the near future.

November 18th 2005
A new model added to the Gallery today: Maris from Spyglass Miniatures.

November 14th 2005
Desktop-shot of the Week updated: 1 warhawk rider done, 2 to go, and the base for a sorcerer to finish.

November 4th 2005
Another paintjob - a really old (late 80s I believe!) Goblin Captain.
Also, I another of my tutorials has been translated into French.

October 24th 2005
Added my most recent paintjob - an Ogre Maneater - to the Gallery as well as to my CMoN account.

October 23rd 2005
Desktop-shot of the Week updated: The Ogre is done and should be added to the gallery during the next week. Among the new projects are a goblin war chief and a tall female miniature...

October 17th 2005
Desktop-shot of the Week updated: Lots of stuff on the desk... After Golden Demon I wanted to get into painting some fun hobby bits instead of those time-consuming competition-entries. I have gotten a few models for my Wood Elves army out of the drawers, as well as a few other half-done projects. The question is how much of this stuff will go unfinished back in the drawers...

Also, I have finally added proper pictures of my 4th sculpt, a Futuristic Ninja Girl called Lisa, to the Gallery. Bringing her to the public heralds the plans for a miniature range of my own design that I want to start creating in the new year.

October 5th 2005
Desktop-shot of the Week updated: Well, actually it is a picture showing a display cabinet containing a lot of my Golden Demon winning figures. The miniatures are part of an exhibition about Warhammer opening on Saturday October 8th at Haderslev Museum (website in Danish) in Denmark.

September 27th 2005
Came back from Golden Demon late last night with my two prizes - a gold and a silver demon. Apart from my results I was very happy to see fellow Danes Rune Kappel and Tue Kaae both picking up a silver demon for their fantastic entries. Also, Linus from Sweden won the Youngbloods category, so it seems that Scandinavia is back on the world map of miniature painting! :-)

The link section has had a small update and amongst the new additions is good friend Adam Clarke's brand new miniature company Black Scorpion Miniatures. Exciting!

My two new Golden Demon entries are added to the relevant Galleries: Revised Adeptus Custode Guard (W40K single model, Silver Demon) Kroot Mercenaries (W40K squad, Gold Demon). The Kroot squad comes with a write-up for the colour scheme. Enjoy.

September 22nd 2005
My Golden Demon entry is almost done and I am just about ready to go to the UK. Pictures of my entry will be up on the site sometime in the beginning of next week. - Hey! It's Bilbo's and Frodo's birthday! :-)

September 1st 2005
The Chaos army project is finished and I have uploaded a BIG photo-collage in my CMON gallery.

August 30th 2005
Desktop-shot of the Week updated: Well, it is a quick photo of my own interpretation of my latest sculpt. She will be added to the gallery when I manage to shoot some better pictures.

Also, to clear some room I have decided to part with a few miniatures. Tjeck out the 'For Sale' part of the Commission page.

August 29th 2005
Great news: The Paint Aid project has finally made it to ebay. I contributed with a Maneater and lots of other great painters also did their share. Follow the link above to the Paint Aid site where you can find photos of the rest of the army and a link to the Ebay auction.

August 22nd 2005
Okay, the site has been somewhat quite the past weeks, but it is GD-season...
Enough excuses - here is a little taste of what I have been up to: Another sculpt from me - Lisa, a SF chick with an attitude - painted splendidly by Rune Kappel.

Desktop-shot of the Week updated: A battle shot from a game of Warhammer (Wood Elves vs. Skaven). Also, I have been playing around with some Vallejo Model Colours and really like the result.

July 16th 2005
Desktop-shot of the Week updated: I am in the middle of constructing the display base to finish off the chaos army project. I am really looking forward to seeing the finished army in all it's glory on the base.

July 10th 2005
Still here, but very busy, and with a tan!
I have just returned from a week of sunshine in Southern France with my family. Being away from anything miniature-related has been very inspirering and lot of ideas has appeared in my mind, but for the moment - unfortunately - I have nothing to show. However, I am picking up the brush (craftknife and sculpting tool) as I write this so I should have something to show soon...

March 7th 2005
I have finished my contribution to the Paint Aid charity project initiated by a group of painters from the CoolMiniOrNot community to help the tsunami victims. Basically, a great lot of great painters are painting a full Ogre Kingdoms army to be auctioned away to raise money. I painted a Maneater for the army and did my best to make it a classic "JRN-style" paintjob while at the same time trying to keep within the overall colour scheme for the army. And since none of my models has ever been on auction before participating in this project is in fact my ebay-debut!

If you haven't seen the Paint Aid site then be sure to check it out and enjoy the many great models painted for the project...

March 1st 2005
Last Thursday I visited the hobby shop, Utopia, in Malmö and had a great time there! I met a lot of talented painters and judging the painting competition (with some very stunning entries) was challenging indeed (contratz to Linus and Mikael - the champions of the day!). I did not get to paint a lot on the day - instead I was demonstrating techniques (by painting the brass and bone armour of an old-school Chaos Champion), answering painting questions and talking about Golden Demon... and brushes. As usual there was someone asking about my use of Citadel brushes so now I have promised myself to go out and get some series 7 brushes to try them out. The shop itself was very nice - seriously high-roofed and a lot of space in the battle bunker. And being a competition painter I found it extremely cool that one of the shop owners, Magnus, had won a Golden Demon back in... 1989!!!

Getting there and back, however, was a real pain since the Danish countryside had just been hit by a snow blizzard or something that caused really bad train delays! And now on March 1st we are still getting way too much in snow - at least when you don't have an indoor place to prime your minatures!

February 18th 2005
Desktop-shot of the Week updated: greens, more old school models, and stuff!

Also, next week - on Thursday Feb. 24th - I am moving my workarea into the real world for an afternoon at the hobby shop, Utopia, in Malmö, Sweden. From 12 to 14 and again from 15 to 17 I will be there painting, giving advice, and showing off a selection of my models. I will also participate in judging the local painting competition.

I am really looking forward to the event and to see some serious Sweedish mini-painting and painters!

February 14th 2005

February 11th 2005

2 new models in the Gallery: The photography session for the Chaos Lord for the chaos army project somehow got out of control: The model can be seen from 4 angles all with super-close-ups extra views! The other new model is an astropath - a really old, but fantastic 40K sculpt.

February 3rd 2005
A new tutorial on painting (human) skin.

January 29th 2005
A Warhammer exhibition created by Maribo Museum has begun moving about in Denmark and can now be seen at Sydsjællands Museum from January 29th to April 3rd 2005. As well as the hobby's historical background the exhibition features a broad selection of my models including quite a few of my GD-winning models plus lots of models by other Danish hobbyists.

January 26th 2005
Desktop-shot of the Week updated showing the conversion work on the Chaos Lord for the chaos army project.

Meeting up with Rune Kappel (Kaple Minis) I will be painting (probably on the above mentioned Chaos Lord) in the local shop, Dragons Lair - Aarhus, tomorrow Thursday January 27th. Sonny Bundgaard (Imitation of Life) might also be joining our painting session.

January 19th 2005
A Danish company working with digital movie technology did some test shooting of one of my painting sessions at the Fanatic convention last year. Check out the edited 4 min. painting demo (appr. 12 mb) on their webpage at MosquitoFilm.dk (the site is in Danish, but just scroll down and activate the video-link).

The video does not show much progress on the miniature (I was painting a border on my Adeptus Custode Guard), but it certainly shows the potential of the technology and has got me interested in doing some longer projects in the future.

January 17th 2005
Desktop-shot of the Week updated showing two characters and a trooper from my old Tzeentch Chaos army which has been adapted to 6th ed. warhammer (Gobbo green bases has been changed to Chaos Black).

January 4th 2005 - First update in the new year!
Encouraged by a number of people I have finally taken time to photograph some of my Wood Elves models.

All pics have been added to the Gallery: 3 characters - Bladeweaver, Scarloc, Glade Guardian, and 4 units - archers, wardancers, dryads, and waywatchers.

Congratulations to the GD-winners and the UK Slayer Sword winner, Jacques-Alexander Gillois, in particular!

Well, GD has been and gone and as I dreaded this was to be my first year without a trophy. However, getting beaten by fantastic entries is actually very inspiring. As usual it was great to see the GD regulars, meet some of the new talents, and being blown away be the many fantastic miniatures in the competition!

September 30th 2004
I am leaving for the UK early tomorrow and bringing both my model AND photos of it to Golden Demon. Thanks for great amount of encouragement and kind words I have recieved during the process of creating my GD entry.

September 29th 2004
My Golden Demon entry, an Adeptus Custode Guard, is finished!
The Desktop-shot of the Week shows my work area just as the model was finished - that is; before the table got cleared of everything GD-related!

September 25th 2004
The Desktop-shot of the Week has really turned into the "Custode-shot of the week" but this should be the last WIP on the model.
I plan to have the model finished within two or three days which leaves me time to get pics developed to bring to GD. This will make it possible to actually show my model to fellow painters on the day where it is often a battle to get to the cabinets and have a good look at the miniatures. Joe Hill did this last year and I think it is a great idea! The only problem is to get the model finished to any other deadline than when you actually has to depart to the event... But here's trying!

September 19th 2004
I had a great time at the Giant Fanatic convention in Copenhagen. The Desktop-shot of the Week shows my painting setup at the convention.

September 16th 2004
This weekend (Sep. 18.-19.) I will be at the Expert Workshop booth at the Giant Fanatic-convention (most of the site is in Danish) in Copenhagen, Denmark. I'm bringing a caseful of models including my GD Custode Guard (probably to work on!), my armoured inquisitor, an my Warmachine Manowar just to name a few. During the weekend I plan to work on the Custode, the 54mm Anastasia the Bride from Steve Buddle's Spyglass Miniatures and maybe start converting a last minute GD-entry!

Speaking of the Custode Guard the Desktop-shot of the Week shows a major jump from last week - the robe is finished and the gold areas almost finished.

September 9th 2004
Desktop-shot of the Week updated showing the final pose of my Custode Guard.
Also, due to some switching around with my email accounts I have lost contact with that handful of people who I have discussing commissions with over the summer. Could you get back in touch?
