Spyglass Miniatures' Anastasia the Bride (2004)

Painting this miniature I wanted to achieve several things. Most importantly I needed create a colour scheme to suit such a subtle and elegant sculpt and I needed to adapt an appropriate painting style. Also, I planned to have another go at the pattern technique which I used on the rope of my Adeptus Custode Guard. Finally, having settled for a colourscheme of black, red, and silver I tried to to some extra effort into the painting of the black dress to give it a very life-like finish. This was achieved using a technique where the black areas are shaded using a mix of Chaos Black and red or purple ink. This technique was executed in between the steps of the normal highlighting process (e.g. black, adding blue, and finally Spacewolf Grey), and to use the ink as shading it was painted on as rather thick glazes.
